Hamilton Street Methodist Church "Let all the World in every corner sing: My God and King!"

Hamilton Street Choir

Hamilton Street’s Choir has a long history and has performed many of the traditional standards from the repertoire such as Crucifixion, Olivet to Calvary and Messiah. In recent years the Choir has seen a broadening of it’s repertoire to include many modern compositions, including Pictures of the Passion, an Easter Musical jointly written by the Choir’s current Director, John Evans.

In 2003 the Choir recorded a CD “Footprints” as a way of remembering the Church’s Centenary. From time to time the Choir also joins up with other singers from Vicars Cross United Reformed Church and The Buckley Singers to give concerts and perform larger scale works.

In 2007 the Choir lead the Church’s first ever “Come & Sing Event”, which along with guest soloists, attracted singers from up to 50 miles away. There have been further such events in 2008 and 2009, when “Crucifixion” and “Olivet To Calvary” were performed. In 2010, the “Come & Sing Event" is planned for Saturday 27th March (Further details will appear on the CONCERTS page).

The Choir meets on Friday evenings from 7.30pm – 9.00pm and at 10.00am, prior to the 10.30am Morning Service on a Sunday, to both rehearse and share fellowship. The atmosphere is informal but we do work hard at our singing and like to keep challenging what we are able to achieve. Anyone is welcome to come and join us or just to see what we do. As long as you enjoy your singing, we don’t mind if you can’t manage rehearsals every week or wouldn’t be able to attend on Sundays, although we find most folk do.

In addition to rehearsals, the Choir also arrange three or four fund raising events each year and enjoy social visits such as theatre and concert trips.

The Choir’s music is prepared well in advance on a three monthly basis to coincide with the Methodist Plan. A copy of the programme is shown below
